    Great video. In case you are still responsive to questions, I’d really appreciate your answering my following question. I’ve got p0171 and p0174 on an old highlander after long hours of driving (>300 km continuously at high speed). But after the codes were cleared, short distance driving for days (80 km each time at speeds of around 90km/h but not much higher), the codes never reappeared. However, another long distance driving for hours at 100 km/h or higher, the code re-emerged again. I suspect it is due to exhaust leak which I can almost hear when suddenly accelerate from slow speed. Did your exhaust leak check engine light occur similar to my case (i.e. only after long term high speed driving)?

      I found a hole in my resonator looked like a drill bit hole. I thought someone vandalized my car, I never noticed it before but I ended up popping the p0171 code. Idk if that would be even possible to throw that code because of it. Someone on my hummer forum said he had the exact same hole for water to drip out idk tbh.

      @@lorianvalhalla2938 Thanks. Vacuum leaks are known cause of p0171/0174 in mamy cases. It typically shows when idling and disappears when gas peddle is pressed hard, opposite to my problem which occurs when accelerating. I resolved mine after realizing that I never knew how to cleam the MAF sensor. I had always been cleaning the temperature sensor but missing the MAF sensor which is hidden deep inside a tube in Toyota. My was simply due to dirty MAF sensor.

    U can buy $200 or less smoke machines that have higher Psi for them. No need to pay $3k and up for the second one u used. Also that bladder u used is $900 plus for a set of them. This is an add to over spend for that equipment

    The Pro one has went down in quality. The hoses r trash ans the o rings on the canister Crack fast. Replaced 2 lead hoses in 6 months of having mine. And who ever engineered the way the hose goes into the canister needs to be fired. $120 dollar ones have been engineered better. Those hoses need to be able to go into a tab that screws the hose down for easy repair when the hoses fail and the one provided broke and cracked quickly on mine. For $1000. dollars u shouldn't have to take that canister apart to repair hoses.

    Hi Alex. Looks like this could be a plus for our constantly changing auto repair profession. I'm intrigued. Is this a dry or wet test process? If it can test a system that's full of coolant or not been completely drained of coolant, it's bound to be a time saver for technicians. If it's a dry test and your BCLD costs less / is easier to use than the Li-ion battery pack tracer gas testers some OEM battery pack manufacturers are using during pack assembly, it will be a repair shop money maker and potential grief saver. No EV tech wants to have a comeback when a PHEV / BEV's 'big battery' has an external (or worse yet - internal) coolant leak. I wonder if this tool can eventually evolve to leak test power electronics (inverters / DC-DC converters) and motor generator cooling systems? I once noticed a 'dab' of coolant in the bottom of a Prius' inverter case. Not a noticeable coolant leak that required reservoir refills, but enough to make me wonder if the inverter might eventually overheat / short out because I didn't address a slow leak before it became a big leak. With today's BEVs, even a little coolant leaking into a Li-ion battery pack's cell area (internally) would be a complete No-No. Thank you Alex and Zach at Redline for another timely innovation!

    I have watched expert videos where they say using shop air may skew results because the particles within the shop air may be too large to escape small leaks in the evap system. What is your take on that?

    • @redlinedetection
      @redlinedetection 2 роки тому

      The air we breathe is made up of 78% Nitrogen - the 7th smallest element on the Periodic Table. It may not be necessary to worry about that air being incapable of escaping EVAP leaks. As long as your shop air/compressed air is filtered properly with a high quality oil/water filter system, you should be good 👍

Would that work as well? if it were to leak around the filler lip I would see that easily and if not the smoke test proceeds thru out the system. Also at 1:23 in the vid as you begin to apply smoke, look at 6 o'clock or the bottom of the cap and see a tiny stream of smoke streaming out from the sticky gasket area. Didn't slip my eye. Use a real gas cap. Just freeze the vid and look for yourself.

    • @lia1063
      @lia1063 Рік тому

      I ended up making my own smoke tester. Just a jar with a hole in the metal lid to put the solder iron tip down in and silicone at its base to the lid. Ok i added 2 air hose lines on each side of the lid outside the solder iron base. Silcone the hoses to seal. Put a cotton wash cloth in the jar and soak in mineral oil and let the iron tip touch the cloth. It will smoke up a storm. Then I pulled the evap line under the hood that heads back to the rear of the car. Hooked the smoke hose on that line and simply blew as soft as I could to move the smoke to the rear. Sure enough the leak was easy to see coming out where a hose was connected to the evap cannister. I have used this twice since in 3 years. Anyone is welcome to borrow it in my area.
